‘Titanic’ is the first single release from a forthcoming new album from Sophia Marshall, a follow up to her 2017 solo debut “Bye Bye”.
“It’s about letting go” says Marshall “about being scared to trust yourself to fall in love again.” This inventive song begins as a call and response duet with her sister Sarah, bringing a sense of sisterhood and reassurance to the lyrics. (“I was running” “You hit the ground babe, you fell”) On ‘Titanic’ the two sisters create harmonies in that way that only families can.
The track also features a guest vocal from Luke Concannon former singer with Nizlopi, no doubt returning the favour after Marshall sang on Nizlopi’s 2006 song Extra Ordinary. With his trademark hip-hop/spoken word delivery Concannon gets to the essence of this song with his line “well it didn’t go down like the drive-by she expected”. Marshall explains “I used the imagery of a drive by shooting except not with guns – just bow and arrows, like some sort of cruel cupid.” It’s an all too familiar tragedy.
